The first Glamorgan cricketer to captain England, later Honorary Life Vice-President of MCC of the Marylebone Cricket Club, BBC cricket analyst in the 1990s. He later became the president of the Marylebone Cricket Club.
Before fame
He made his first-class debut for Glamorgan in 1955 at the age of 17.
Trivia
He also played rugby union and won a blue for Cambridge in The Varsity Match in 1959. He had a bowling average of 72.00.

He married Joan Pritchard in 1962.
