Played for Yorkshire from 1951 to 1968 and 1982 to 1983, Leicestershire from 1969 to 1978 and England from 1958 to 1973. He was named Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 1960.
Before Fame
He made his first-class debut at age 19 and earned his first cap in 1955.
Trivia
He is one of very few cricketers to have taken 2,000 wickets and made 20,000 runs in First class cricket.

His son-in-law Ashley also played for Yorkshire.
