Jazz and blues singer who is best recognized for his songs "Please Don't Talk About Me When I'm Gone" and "Ain't Misbehaving". He specialized in Tin Pan Alley era music and is also credited with having sung the theme to the 80's television series Mr. Belvedere.
Before Fame
He first started performing music while living in Toronto. He met Bob Dylan at the Mariposa Folk Festival in 1972 and having made such an impact, Dylan mentioned the meeting in a Rolling Stone interview. He was then featured in the magazine a year prior to ever having a record deal. He was picked up by Warner Bros. Records in 1975 and his first album On the Track was released that year.
Trivia
He is known for having been a regular musical guest on the NBC series Saturday Night Live and also appeared on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.
Family Life
While he was born in Nicosia, Cyprus, he came to Canada in the mid 1960's and changed his name from Dickran Gobalian.
