Architect and urban planner whose work included the Canadian Embassy in Washington, D.C. Also known for his mentorship of many prominent Vancouver architects and for being featured in the paintings of such artists as Tiko Kerr.
Before Fame
He served in World War II as part of the Canadian Army Intelligence Corps. He and Geoffrey Massey collaborated on the winning design for Simon Fraser University in 1963.
Trivia
His buildings were mostly concrete and modern; Fresno City Hall was an example of his futuristic designs. He was awarded the 1986 AIA Gold Medal.
Family Life
He was born to Oscar Erickson and Myrtle Chatterson in Vancouver. His life partner and collaborator was Francisco Kripacz. His family created in his memory the Arthur Erickson Foundation for Excellence in Architecture.
