Politician who serves as the 15th Prime Minister of Sudan from 2019-2021 and from 2021-2022. He was a part of the Sudanese transition to democracy in 2019. He was kidnapped during a Sudanese coup d'état in October of 2021 until his release the following month. He posts videos of himself giving lectures and press conferences on his SudanPMHamdokFacebook page and SudanPMHamdok Twitter account, with 950,000 and 700,000 followers respectively. In January 2022, he made a post announcing his resignation as Prime Minister.

Before Fame

He got his bachelor's in science from the University of Khartoum and then a doctorate in economic studies from the University of Manchester. In the 80's he worked in the Sudanese Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning. In the 90's he worked towards the cause of promoting diplomacy in Africa and the Middle East. From 2011-2018 he was the Deputy Executive Secretary for the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa.

Trivia

There was an assassination attempt on his life in March 2020 when a car explosion targeted him and his motorcade. In 2020 he passed a law to prohibit female genital mutilation. 

Family Life

He married fellow economist Muna Abdalla in 1993. Together they have two adult sons. 

Associated With

Omar Al-Bashir was the head of the previous Sudanese regime until he was deposed in 2019 in a coup d'état. Hamdok dismissed some of the government ministers he had appointed.
