Mexican folk song originally from the state of Veracruz most popularly adapted by Ritchie Valens. It earned him an induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2001, posthumously.
Trivia
It charted at no. 22 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and at no. 49 on the UK Singles chart. It also charted in Belgium and France. Los Lobos released a cover that topped the charts in 1987.
