Before Fame

Phillips caught the acting bug during his junior year in high school in Fredericksburg, Texas, when the local theater did a production of Man of La Mancha. He later graduated from the musical theater program at Elon University.

Trivia

During the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic, Phillips supported himself for a year by working remotely as a tutor. In 2023, he played Chad on the TV series Glamorous.

Family Life

He got the role of Dex after following and retweeting a Jane Austen reference at Fire Island creator Joel Kim Booster in 2019, after finding out that Booster was wanting to do an update on Austen's Pride and Prejudice by setting it in gay-friendly Fire Island. He has been romantically linked with Froy Gutierrez.
