About
Serial killer who earned the nickname the Pillow Killer. He was active from 1989 to 2006, during which time he killed 23 people. He later confessed to murdering an additional 150 people in Germany and Switzerland, which would make him the most prolific serial killer of the 20th century. His first crimes were robbery, which landed him in prison from 1981 to 1989. His victims were elderly women, whom he also robbed. He died by suicide while being detained at the Mulhouse High Court in Mulhouse, France.

He was arrested for his crimes in September of 2006.
Trivia
He had at least two serious romantic relationships with women. His neighbors remembered him as being kind to animals and good at his landscaping job. However, his first female companion later alleged that he forced her into prostitution to support his spending habits.
Family Life
He was born in Wittenheim, Haut-Rhin, France. His parents were basket weavers. His father also worked in the mines. His mother died at the age of 49. He was forced by his father to work long hours, and he had eight siblings.
