Singaporean backstroke swimmer and athlete who is best known as a five-time Paralympic gold medallist and five-time World Champion, with two world records in the 50 m backstroke S2 and the 100 m backstroke S2.
Before Fame
She was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy at the age of 2. When she was five, she started swimming to improve her health and strengthen her muscles, and by the time she was thirteen, she had lost her ability to walk and had to use a wheelchair. In the year 2017, she graduated from Singapore Management University with a Bachelor of Social Science.
Trivia
She won a gold medal in the 50 meters backstroke and a silver medal in the 50 meters freestyle, setting world records in both events at the 2008 Summer Paralympics. In 2022, she was crowned Sportswoman of the Year at the Singapore Disability Sports Awards in the year 2022.
Family Life
She is the daughter of Margaret Chong and Yip Chee Khiong. She is the youngest of three children.
