Multi award-winning screenwriter and director of both short and feature films who is best known for his critically-acclaimed works including Hideous, Knife + Heart, Islands, and You and the Night. His projects frequently center around queer characters. Several have been nominated for or are recipients of the Cannes Film Festival's Queer-Palm Award.
Before Fame
He wrote and directed multiple short films before releasing his debut feature film You and the Night in the year 2013. Some of his earliest short films include By the Kiss in the year 2006 and Three Celestial Bodies in the year 2012.
Trivia
Among his long list of accolades, his film You and the Night won Best Picture at the Athens International Film Festival in the year 2013, while his film Knife + Heart won Best Film at the Reykjavik International Film Festival, as well as the revered Jean Vigo Prize, in the year 2018.
Family Life
His younger brother is composer Anthony Gonzalez of the French electronic music group M83. They have often collaborated on projects together. Anthony has created the scores for some of Yann's films, while Yann has directed music videos for Anthony's band M83.
