Before Fame
He studied English at the University of Savoy in Chambéry before switching to journalism at the ISIC (Institute of Information and Communication Sciences) at Bordeaux Montaigne University, in Bordeaux. He originally wanted to be a cameraman. In 1998, he was hired on with Canal and took care of the guests of +Clair, a program devoted to the media and presented by Daphné Roulier. He started at Michel Denisot's "Grand Journal" in 2004, presenting the "Petit Journal People" and "Petit Journal Actu" sections. In 2007, he presented Le Petit Journal Actu (The Little News Report--Current Events).
Trivia
In 2011, Le Petit Journal became a separate program, with Barthès as the main presenter. In 2016, he debuted Quotidien. Notoriously private and shy, Barthes prefers to spend his downtime having beers with media comrades from his inner circle, including journalist Ariane Massenet and comedian Nora Hamzawi. He also vacations in Japan, and regularly visits his native Savoy.

His father was a railway worker and his mother worked in a notary office. His brother is also a railway worker.
