Before Fame
When he was five years old he witnessed his father being stabbed to death by his adoptive son Yusuf. He had a speech impediment until he was twelve-years-old.

He was married to Ayşe Semiha Baban from 2002 to 2015 and Thilda Kemal from 1952 to 2001. He has a child named Raşit Gökçeli.
