About
Eighth emperor of the Qing dynasty and seventh emperor of the Qing dynasty who ruled over China proper from 1850 to 1861. His born name was Yizhu, and he took the throne when he was only 19 years old. He was the last Chinese emperor to have rule with authoritarian control, and he faced internal turbulence under his reign, including the Taiping Rebellion, the Nian Rebellion, and Second Opium War.
Before Fame
His reign title of Xianfeng means "Universal Prosperity," however, he inherited a troubled dynasty with the Taiping Rebellion beginning the year he took the throne.
Trivia
He died relatively young on August 22nd, 1861 at the age of 30.
Family Life
He was from the House of Aisin-Gioro and was the fourth son of Emperor Daoguang.
Associated With
The death toll of the Taiping Rebellion was comparable to that of World War I, which occurred while Woodrow Wilson was president.
