Spanish-American artist known for his paintings and sculptures. His work has been displayed at many prestigious galleries, such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Corcoran Gallery of Art, and the Whitney Museum of American Art.
Before Fame
He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago, from 1921 to 1923. He also studied at Newcomb College, in New Orleans.
Trivia
He died of leukemia in 1993, at the age of 94. He lived in Mexico and Argentina, where had planned to become an engineer before moving to the United States. Internationally, he was known for his art in cities like Paris, Tokyo, Venice and Brussels.
Family Life
He married his wife and former student Ethel Edwards in 1935.
