About
British priest in the Church of England who wrote extensively on the doctrine of infant baptism. He was generally an apologist for the English church and sought to maintain peace between it and the Anabaptists.
Before Fame
He attended Harrow School and got his BA from The Queen's College, Oxford in 1667 and his MA in 1670. After ordination, he lived and worked in Shoreham, Kent until his death in 1728.
Trivia
After publishing a third edition of his 1705 book, A History of Infant Baptism, in 1720, Oxford University gave him an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree.
Family Life
He was born in Kent. He married Catharine Davenant in 1676, with whom he had two sons and three daughters. The only child who survived into adulthood was Catharine, who married and produced eight sons and eight daughters.
