He studied at Pembroke College, Oxford and published his debut work -- Poems on various occasions, written for the entertainment of the author -- while he was still a student.

Trivia

He wrote a 1741 letter in which he used the word "floccinaucinihilipilification," which is the lengthiest word in the English dictionary.

He was the child of Thomas Shenstone and Anne Penn. He neither married nor had children of his own.
