Before Fame
At the age of 16, he started his business career as a bookkeeper. About two years later, he joined his older brother's produce commission business, Clark and Rockefeller, which later supplied provisions to the Union Army.
Trivia
He was also a part owner of Anaconda Copper, which was the fourth-largest company in the world by the late 1920s.

In 1964, he married Almira Geraldine Goodsell and they had six children together.
