English painter and etcher who is the inventor of the tint Payne's grey. He mostly employed the use of watercolors and oils in his work.
Before Fame
He was in the engineer's department at Plymouth Dockyard until he moved to London in 1790 and worked as a landscape painter.
Trivia
He was elected as an associate of the Watercolour Society in 1809 and left in 1812.
