Before Fame
As a teenager, he worked at the Houston Post. He eventually began his political career in the year 1914 as a member of the Democratic Party.

He is the 27th Governor ever selected to represent Texas. At the time, Texas was dealing with the effects of the Mexican Revolution. In August of 1955, Hobby became chairman of the board of the Houston Post Company. By then, the company owned the television station KPRC-TV. His second wife Oveta Culp Hobby served as its president and editor.

He was a husband and father of two children. A few years after his wife Willie died, he married his second wife Oveta in the year 1931.
