American lawyer and older brother of poet Emily Dickinson.
Before Fame
He studied at Williston Seminary and Amherst College. He taught briefly before studying law at Harvard University Law School. He later joined his father, Edward Dickinson, at his law practice.
Trivia
From 1873 until his death, he served as treasurer of Amherst College. He also took part in several civic projects and responsibilities, such as moderating the town meetings and acting as president of the Village Improvement Association.
Family Life
He married Susan Huntington Gilbert Dickinson, a friend of his sister, Emily Dickinson, from childhood. They had three children.

His sister, Emily Dickinson, was inspired by the works of William Shakespeare.
