About

English architect who designed numerous churches. Some of his best known works include the Balliol College Chapel at the University of Oxford and All Saints, Margaret Street in London. He was associated with the Gothic Revival movement in architecture.

He was a pupil of architect E.L. Blackburne.

Trivia

He was awarded the Royal Gold Medal for architecture in 1884. He was buried in a tomb that he designed himself. Despite being brought up in a non conformist home, he drew inspiration from religion. He also designed hotels, colleges and hospitals.
