Legendary engineer and contractor most recognized for being the builder of England's Forth Rail Bridge and the second Tay Bridge. Later on in his life, he became a politician for the Liberal Unionist Party. He once owned his own international civil engineering business named Sir William Arrol & Co.

He first began working as a young child at the age of nine. A few years later, he received a job working as a blacksmith.

In 2013, he was inducted into the Scottish Engineering Hall of Fame. His face has also been printed on money in Scotland.
