English actor who first gained fame for his roles in the crime drama series Anna Lee and Cracker. He rose to greater prominence with his portrayal of Detective Sergeant Spencer Jordan in Waking the Dead. More recently, he portrayed Ser Vaemond Velaryon in House of the Dragon.

He studied at Mountview Theatre School and the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain.
Trivia
He and Ashaiku Ogbevire Christian produced the 2009 drama film Disoriented Generation. He has performed in some of William Shakespeare's plays, such as Othello and King Lear. Between acting roles, in the mid '90s, he worked in the funeral business, driving a hearse and being a pallbearer.

One of his daughters, Ayanna Witter-Johnson, is a famous composer and cellist. He and his wife, Camilla, have been married since 2014.
