Before Fame
He served in the US military during the Korean War. He was stationed on the Island of Guam between 1948-1952.
Trivia
During the war he was promoted to Staff Sergeant and offered a candidacy at an officer training school. He attended L. I. F. E. Bible College in 1957-60. He often promoted the book The Foundations of Pentecostal Theology. He had been preaching for over 60 years of his life.

He was married to Nelda Mitchell until her passing in 2016.
