Brazilian politician who served as the 13th president of Brazil. In 1920, he was elected governor of São Paulo state and in 1926, elected president of Brazil. He was overthrown in a coup d'etat during the Brazilian Revolution of 1930, three weeks before the end of his term.
Before Fame
In 1891, he graduated from the University of São Paulo Law School. In 1892, he was appointed prosecutor in Barra Mansa, Rio de Janeiro but resigned to devote himself to law in Batatais, São Paulo.
Trivia
He belonged to the Republican Party of São Paulo and served as the last president of the First Brazilian Republic.
Family Life
From 1900 to 1934, he was married to Sofia Pais de Barros. They had four children, Victor, Raphael, Florinda and Caio.
