American chef who was best known as the White House Executive Chef from 1994 until 2005. As Executive Chef at the White House, his duties included managing and preparing all menus and meals for the First Family and their private entertaining, as well as official and state function of the presidency. He prepared meals for Hillary, Bill Clinton and Chelsea Clinton as well as for George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush.
Before Fame
As a child he would help with mother chop vegetables. In 1972, he graduated from Walter Johnson High School in Bethesda. He enrolled at the University of Maryland, College Park, but quit and enrolled at The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York, where he graduated in 1979.
Trivia
He worked at the Capitol Hilton as the Executive Chef. Following his departure from the Hilton in 1986, he took the position of Executive Chef at the Boca Raton Club and Resort. He then moved from Florida to White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia in 1990 to become the Executive Chef at The Greenbriar.
Family Life
He is the son of Walter S. Scheib Jr. and Jean Scheib. His father worked for the Atomic Energy Commission, and his mother was an accountant. He and his first wife Jean Scheib had two sons. His second ex-wife is Yvonne Swartz.
