About

An American writer and career magician, he wrote close to three hundred pulp fiction stories featuring a popular character known as "The Shadow." Under the pseudonym of Andy Adams, he also wrote several "Biff Brewster" young adult novels.

Before Fame

When he was seven, he created a puzzle that was published in the prestigious American Heritage magazine. After graduating from Colgate University in 1920, he began writing crossword puzzles for several newspapers.
