Metal singer, economist, and professor who also formed the band Sarcófago, which is heavily extolled throughout the Brazilian metal community for having made a major impact on the black, thrash, and death metal genres. Following the band's dissolution in 2000, he started his career as an economic science and applied statistics professor at the Universidaded Federal de Minas Gerais in Belo Horizonte in Brazil. Despite this extreme career shift, however, he continued to release music, both as a solo metal artist and with the stoner metal band The Evil, which he co-founded in 2012.

Before Fame

He rose to fame for performing alongside the Brazilian heavy metal band Sepultura during its earliest years. He contributed to the band's debut EP, "Bestial Devastation" in 1985. He also co-wrote the lyrics to their song, "Antichrist." The latter was written in reference to his own adopted stage name. 

Trivia

His debut album with Sarcófago, which was "I.N.R.I.," was released in 1987 and has left one of the most unbeatable legacies of the metal genre in its wake. Øystein Aarseth (Euronymous), the late guitarist of the band Mayhem, and leader of the early Norwegian black metal scene's inner circle, wrote to him frequently following its release and expressed his hope that all black metal bands would follow in the footsteps of Sarcófago's early image.

Family Life

His father was a pianist and his mother was a guitarist and singer. He was previously married, but the relationship dissolved due to personal reasons that have been undisclosed to the public. He has two children.

During his time with Sepultura, he performed alongside bandmates Andreas KisserEloy Casagrande, and Derrick Green, as well as brothers Max Cavalera and Igor Cavalera.
