About

Russian American artist who is classified as a surrealist but has titled his style as metaphorical realism. His most famous works are usually oil paintings that depict colorful and imaginative seascapes, such as Departure of the Winged Ship. He describes his motto as 'to reflect the world in the mirror of the metaphor'. 

Before Fame

He studied art at the Surikov Moscow Art Institute. In 1990, he moved to Los Angeles and began his art career by drawing portraits of Santa Monica beach.

Trivia

He had always dreamed of visiting Hawaii, and in 2001, his first gallery opened in Lahaina, Maui. He has since opened galleries in Laguna Beach, California, Las Vegas, Nevada, and Miami, Florida. Family Life

His father is named Oleg, and had an impact on his artwork as his father's struggles with eyesight helped the young artist learn to look at the world in a different way. He married Oxana Kush.

Associated With

He has cited Salvador Dalí as an influence of his. He filed a lawsuit against Ariana Grande regarding his paintings The Candle and The Candle 2, as he stated they were used without permission in the "God is a Woman" music video.
