English author, poet, and journalist famous for her published works and relationship with Virginia Woolf. Her most popular works include The Edwardians and All Passion Spent, and she is also said to be the inspiration of Woolf's book Orlando: A Biography. She and her husband created the famous garden at Sissinghurst Castle.

She attended Helen Wolff's school for girls, where she wrote eight novels, occasionally in French. She often spent time in Paris as a child.

Trivia

The country house where she was born, Knole, was given to the Sackville-West originally by Elizabeth I of England. She was unable to inherit the property upon her father's death because she was a woman.

Family Life

Her parents Lionel and Victoria Sackville-West were cousins, and she was their only child. She married Harold Nicolson and had two sons with him. The relationship was known as primarily platonic because she had many relationships with women throughout their marriage.
