Vani Jairam

About

Playback singer who rose to fame for her work in Indian cinema. Her fans affectionately referred to her as the Meera of modern India. During her storied career she was a three-time winner of the National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer. In early 2023, she passed away as a result from a bad fall.

Before Fame

She graduated from Queen Mary's College, Chennai. After graduation she found employment at the State Bank of India.

Trivia

She recorded her first Tamil language song for the film Thayum Seiyum in 1973. In 2018, she was awarded with the Pravasi Express Awards Singapore, Life Time Achievement Award. 

Family Life

She was married to Jairam. Her mother-in-law was also a musician and social activist.
