Olympic gold medalist in track and field representing the United States. She won three gold medals at the 1984 Olympics in the 200m, 400m, and 4x400m relay. She became the first person to have won gold medals for both 200m and 400m at the same Olympics.

She attended California State University, Northridge. She started her professional career with team USA at the 1979 Pan American Games where she won a gold medal in the 4×100m relay team.
Trivia
She was inducted in 1995 to the United States Track and Field Hall of Fame. She was considered the tenth fastest woman of all time in the 400m.

She is from Greenwood, Mississippi. She married NFL player Alvin Hooks in 1981. Her son is Alvin Hooks Jr. Her brothers names are Robert and Melvin Brisco.
