In the early 1990s, following the death of his brother Sree Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma, Uthradom Varma assumed the title of Maharaja of Travancore.

He studied history, economics, and politics at Travancore University and received a special award for his Sanskrit scholarship.

He was a recipient of the King George V Silver Jubilee Medal; the King George VI Coronation Medal; and the Indian Independence Medal.
Family Life
He was the youngest boy born to Travancore Royal Family descendant Sethu Parvathi Bayi. His marriage to Shrimati Radhadevi Pandalai (official title: Ammachi Panapillai Amma) produced a daughter named Parvathidevi Kochamma and a son named Ananthapadmanabhan Thampi.
