About
Russian-born American psychologist who is best known for his ecological systems theory. He is also known for his work with the United States government, helping in the formation of the Head Start program in 1965.
Before Fame
He was born in Moscow, Russia and moved to the United States at the age of 6. In 1938, he earned a bachelor's degree from Cornell University. In 1940, he completed a masters degree in education from Harvard University and in 1942, he completed a doctorate from the University of Michigan in developmental psychology.
Trivia
The day after receiving his doctorate he was inducted into the Army, where he served as a psychologist in the Air Corps, the Office of Strategic Services and the Army Medical Corps. In 1948, he joined the Cornell faculty as a professor.
Family Life
His parents were Alexander Bronfenbrenner and Eugenie Kamenetski Bronfenbrenner. He was married to Liese Price until he passed away in 2005. They had six children: Michael, Steven, Beth, Mary, Kate, and Ann.
