About
Widely renowned actor of theatre, television, and film best known for starring in movies such as Reflection in the Water, Cirulisi, and The Long Road in the Dunes. He also starred on the television series Neprata Cena and Ugunsgreks. Some of his major stage credits include, "The Cunning of the Cavaliers" and "Iron Grass." He was awarded the title of Meritorious Performing Artist of the Latvian SSR in 1977, the People's Performing Artist of the Latvian SSR in 1987, and the Order of the Three Stars, Class IV in 2002.
Before Fame
He studied the piano and the trumpet while attending music school as a child. He later studied in the acting department of the Latvian State Conservatory's theatre faculty. After his graduation, he began performing at the National Theater. He made his stage debut in 1965. His on-screen career commenced with the film Cielavina's Army.

Some of his many accolades include the Andrew Pumpur Prize, the Alfred Amtmann - Deering Prize, the 2003 Player's Night Actor of the Year Award, and the 2015 Player's Night Award for Lifetime Achievement.
Family Life
He was the son of his father Teodors Reiņš Dumpja, and his mother Lilija Dumpe. His father was drafted by the German army and disappeared at the end of the war. His mother was an organist and music instructor. He married his wife Daina Dzene in the year 1965. Together, they had one son named Jurģis and one daughter named Dace.

He starred in "The Perfect Man" by Oscar Wilde in the year 1968. He played the titular character in "Liliom" by Ferenc Molnár in the year 1971.
