29 year-old black man who was pulled over for reckless driving in Tennessee in January of 2023, pepper sprayed, tased and battered by five Black officers. His injuries landed him in the hospital, where he died three days later. Multiple investigations were opened on the matter. Later that month, surveillance videos were released, causing public outcry and mass protests when no evidence of reckless driving or violence on his part was found.

Protestors in Memphis blocked traffic on Interstate 55. Other protests were initiated in New York City, Washington, D.C., Chicago, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Portland, Atlanta, San Francisco, Boston, Baltimore and Newark. All five offending officers were dismissed and subsequently arrested and charged with second-degree murder, aggravated assault, aggravated kidnapping, official misconduct and official oppression.
