He grew up in Pasadena. He attended Ribét Academy in his freshman year of high school, then transferred to St. John Bosco High School, in Bellflower, California. He transferred to Maranatha, back in Pasadena for his senior year. He was the 2015 Gatorade State Player of the Year for California. He played at the University of Oregon.
