American tennis player, TV host and motivational speaker who is known for being the amateur world No. 1 tennis champion in 1954, 1955 and 1956. 

Before Fame

He played tennis and basketball at the University of Cincinnati, and was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. While at Cincinnati, he won the 1951 NCAA National Championship in singles.

Trivia

He was the winner of ten Grand Slam titles, five in singles and five in doubles. He excelled at tennis from an early age on.

Family Life

He married Shauna Wood in 1953. They had a daughter named Brooke Trabert Dabkowski. He was born in Cincinnati, and grew up playing tennis at the park near his house.

He was the last American to hoist the championship trophy until Michael Chang won the French Open in 1989.
