Before Fame
He started to box at the age of ten, learning from his uncle and former professional boxer William Young "Billy" Bryce. He won the School Boys' Championships, and attained gold status in the European Cadets. He was a winner in the juniors division of the 2003 YMCA International Cup, and a semifinalist in the Junior Brandenburg Cup.

Family Life
He married his longtime girlfriend, Sarah Kneeshaw, who was employed as an emergency room nurse. The couple is raising three daughters together. They moved to Santa Monica, California in 2012. He has two sisters named Lucy and Sarah.
