Dutch software developer, computer enthusiast, entrepreneur, inventor, and business executive who is best known as the creator of Blender, a free and open-source 3D computer graphics software, and for being the chairman of the Blender Foundation.
Before Fame
He started his career as an art director and software developer. He founded the animation studio NeoGeo in 1989. He created a 3D animation tool called Traces in 1995 which would eventually be rebranded in 2003 to Blender.
Trivia
He taught himself software development. He received an honorary doctorate in Technology from the Leeds Metropolitan University in 2009 for his work on Blender. He received the Ub Iwerks Award at the Annie Awards in February 2019.
Family Life
He was born and raised in the Netherlands.
Associated With
Tomm Moore's film The Secret of Kells (2009) was partly produced using Blender. Some effects in Ilya Naishuller's film Hardcore Henry (2015) were done using Blender.
