From 1970 to 1980, this Northern Irish midfielder played for the Newcastle United F.C., scoring a total of twenty-two goals. During the early 1980s, he went on to play for both Burnley and the APOEL FC. In addition, while playing for Northern Ireland's national football team, he received twenty-four caps and played in the 1982 FIFA World Cup.

In the late 1960s, he began his career with the Glentoran Football Club.
