American musician and guitarist known for his work with Tom Petty. He also became a founder and lead guitarist of the southern rock band Mudcrutch in 1970, but has also played guitar and bass for other bands throughout his career. He died in 2023 at the age of seventy.

While living in Florida, he met Tom Petty in high school. In the early days of their band, they would perform at the University of Florida in Gainesville.
