Famed salsa singer and bandleader from Puerto Rico known as "El Gallo Salsero" (The Salsa Rooster). He had a prolific decades-long career as both a solo artist as well as a member of notable orchestras. He released over 40 full-length albums throughout his prolific career. 

Before Fame

He was born and raised in Humacao, Puerto Rico, which is located on the eastern coast of Puerto Rico. His first job was in 1975 as a singer in the Pedro Conga Orchestra. 

Trivia

His album Por Propio Derecho went double platinum in 1995 and it garnered him the Paoli Prize for "Best Salsa Artist of the Year" and an ACE Award. He made it on the Billboard charts over 50 times.

He was married to a woman named Ivy whom he often featured on his eponymous Instagram.
