He attempted to assassinate Donald Trump on the date of July 13, 2024, at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. His attempt was thwarted, and he was killed by the Secret Service. It was later learned that he flew a drone above the campaign rally area just days before the event.

He was a registered Republican, though he donated to democrat causes. He fired shots at President Trump from the roof of a building located outside the perimeter of the rally. In his attempt to assassinate the President, he shot and killed a man attending the rally.
