Before Fame
He grew up surrounded by the Baltimore music scene and with a love for music. He cofounded the music group The Whispers with four of his high school friends. He wrote, arranged, and led the vocals on their 1955 releases of "Fool Heart" and "Are You Sorry?" He joined The Flamingos in late 1956. He joined Motown Records in 1964, where he worked as a songwriter and producer.
Trivia
He released his solo debut album, Still in the Pink, on his own label TerryTree Records in 2005. He wrote the songs "Baby, Baby Don't Cry" for The Miracles, "Malinda" for Bobby Taylor & The Vancouvers, and "Here I Go Again" for Smokey Robinson & The Miracles.
