Before Fame

He is a graduate of North Carolina State University. As a member of NC State's college basketball team, he helped his team win the 1983 NCAA National Championship. 

Trivia

He finished his collegiate career with the most free throws made in NC State program history. He also finished second all-time in career free throw percentage while at NC State. He was selected to commentate during the 2010 Winter Olympics, the 2012 Summer Olympics, the 2014 Winter Olympics, the 2016 Summer Olympics, the 2018 Winter Olympics the 2020 Summer Olympics, and the 2022 Winter Olympics.
