Before Fame
He commenced his collegiate football career while attending the University of California, Berkeley, where he began as a defensive tackle. He eventually moved on to become an offensive tackle during his junior year. In that time, he became a two-year starter and a four-year letterman. He was selected by the Indianapolis Colts during the 1st round of the 1997 NFL draft.

He is the son of his father Ralph, a retailer, and his mother Connie, a nurse. He has one brother. He is married to his wife Maya, with whom he has 4 children named Isaiah, Leila, Nia, and Elisha.
