Collegiate women's basketball coach most recognized by her years with Stanford University, where she won multiple NCAA National Coach of the Year awards. She has also been named PAC-12 Coach of the Year ten different times during her time at Stanford. In 1996, she won a gold medal as the head of the United States women's national team.

Prior to her coaching career, she played college basketball at Indiana University and Albany State University. She later began her coaching career in 1978 at the University of Idaho.
Trivia
In 2002, she was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame. She was eventually inducted into the James Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2011.

She grew up living with her family in Melrose, Massachusetts. Her sister, Heidi, is also a professional basketball coach.
