Nigerian chess player who currently holds the title of FIDE Master. He gained recognition when he won the 2019 K-3 New York State chess championship at the age of 8 after having played the game for only a year while living with his refugee family in a homeless shelter in Manhattan.
Before Fame
In June 2017, he and his family left Nigeria for the United States and sought religious asylum, after being threatened by the Islamist terrorist organization Boko Haram. In October 2022, Adewumi and his family were granted asylum in the United States. He attended elementary school P.S. 116.
