She is the first black woman in history to win gold for USA in woman's freestyle wrestling. She also secured USA's second-ever gold medal in woman's freestyle wrestling at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. 

Before Fame

Tamyra was born in Chicago, Illinois, and grew up in the suburbs of Houston, Texas. She attended Morton Ranch High School in Katy, Texas. She joined the wrestling team at age 15. In college, she became the Women's Collegiate Wrestling Association Nationals Champion in 2014 and 2017. 

Trivia

She is a pescaterian. In 2022 she was inducted into the Hall of Honor at Wayland Baptist University, where she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Exercise and Sports Science. Helen Maroulis was the first woman to win a gold medal in wrestling. She also won a medal at competitions in Kazakhstan.

Family Life

She married Jacob Stock, a fellow wrestler from both her high school and university, in 2016. She has a twin, Tarkyia, who also joined wrestling in high school. Her father was a Ghanaian who passed away from a car accident, and her mother is from Illinois.
